Detailed information on the certificate of good conduct

Criminal record certificate

To apply for a police clearance certificate for use abroad and to have it apostilled, follow these steps:

1. Application for a certificate of good conduct:

  • Online application:

    • Visit the online portal of the Federal Office of Justice: fuehrungszeugnis.bund.de

    • Requirements:

      • Electronic identity card or electronic residence permit with activated online ID function.

      • NFC-enabled smartphone or card reader.

      • AusweisApp2 software.

    • Fee: 13.00 euros, payable by credit card or Giropay.

  • Personal application:

    • Submit the application to your responsible registration authority (e.g. Citizens’ Registration Office).

    • Required documents:

      • Valid identity card or passport.

      • Indication of the intended purpose and the recipient country.

    • Fee: 13.00 Euro, payable on site.

2. Applying for the Apostille:

  • Competent authority:

    • The Federal Office for Foreign Affairs is responsible for issuing apostilles on police clearance certificates.

  • Application:

    • Send the original certificate of good conduct together with an informal application by post to the address above.

    • Please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope.

  • Fee:

    • 25.00 euros per document.

    • The fee is charged cash on delivery; you pay the amount to the deliverer upon receipt of the apostilled document.

Notes:

  • Processing time:

    • It usually takes 1-2 weeks to issue the certificate of good conduct.

    • Processing the apostille may take additional time, so please allow sufficient lead time.

  • Validity:

    • The certificate of good conduct should not be older than six months when presented in Paraguay.
