1. Obtaining the name change certificate:

  • Competent authority: The certificate of name change is issued by the authority that carried out the name change. This can be the registry office, the name change authority or another competent authority.

  • Application:

    • In person: Visit the relevant authority with a valid identification document.

    • In writing: Send an informal application with your personal data and a copy of your ID to the authority.

  • Fees: The cost of issuing a certified copy of the name change certificate varies depending on the authority. Find out about the current fees in advance.

  • Processing time: As a general rule, you should expect a processing time of up to two weeks.

2. Applying for the Apostille:

  • Competent authority: The apostille is issued by the state authority of the federal state in which the name change certificate was issued. In many cases, these are the regional councils or district governments.

  • Application:

    • In person: Visit the relevant authority with the original name change certificate.

    • In writing: Send the original name change certificate to the authority along with an informal application and a stamped envelope.

  • Fees: The cost of the apostille is usually 25.00 euros per document.

  • Processing time: The processing time can vary depending on the authority. Find out about the current processing times in advance.

Important instructions:

  • Validity: Make sure that the name change certificate and apostille are still valid at the time of use in Paraguay. Some countries will only accept documents if they were issued or authenticated within the last six months.
