German passport

To apply for a German passport, follow these steps:

1. Make an appointment: Make an appointment at your local citizen's office. Many cities offer online appointment scheduling. For example, in Berlin you can book an appointment via the service portal: Service Berlin

2. Required documents:

  • Current identity card or old passport: To prove your identity.

  • Biometric passport photo: Current and in accordance with the requirements. Information on the requirements can be found here:

  • Birth certificate: If you do not yet have a passport or your personal details have changed.

  • Marriage certificate: If your name was changed after the marriage.

3. Fees:

  • Persons aged 24 and over:

    • Passport with 32 pages: 70.00 euros

    • Passport with 48 pages (for frequent travelers): 92.00 euros

  • Persons under 24 years of age:

    • Passport with 32 pages: 37.50 euros

    • Passport with 48 pages: 59.50 euros

  • Express passport (processing in approx. 4 working days): Additional surcharge of 32.00 euros.

4. Processing time:

  • Standard procedure: Usually 3 to 4 weeks.

  • Express delivery: Approx. 4 working days.

5. Period of validity:

  • Persons aged 24 and over: 10 years.

  • Persons under 24 years of age: 6 years.

6. Pick up:

You will be notified when your passport is ready for collection. Please bring your identity card or old passport with you when you collect it.
